I'm a huge fan of the book "Twilight", as previously mentioned in earlier posts. My favorite character is Edward Cullen. (Portrayed in the movie by the delicious Rob Pattinson)
*swoon*
So, there's another partial version of "Twilight" written from Edwards point of view, called "Midnight Sun". This manuscript was apparently filched from the writer and to counter that the writer, Stephenie Meyer, posted the unfinished manuscript on her website. (http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/) I've read in numerous articles that she's setting it aside "indefinitely" to work on other projects instead. If you listen carefully, you can hear millions of hearts breaking. The old saying about "cutting off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind when I hear this. I don't know if she is not finishing it because she's mad, or if she thinks people won't be interested. But I'm telling you it would be money in the bank for her. Not that it's about $$$ for her, no one knows that but her, but it would be a sure fire best seller and I know every single person who bought "Twilight" would buy this version as well. Cha-ching!
I absolutely love this unfinished manuscript and if & when (Please God, let it be "when") it's finally finished and published, it will become my favorite of the Twilight Sagas, replacing the current #1 "Twilight". I've read M.S. more than 10 times now. Sometimes I also read it and where it ends, I pick up from that point in "Twilight". People might questions why re-do "Twilight" when it's already been done. But Edwards version is completely different. You don't realize when a book is written from one person perspective, what you miss from the other characters. I didn't realize myself until I read Midnight Sun. Sometimes when I'm reading M.S. and Edward mentions a look Bella might be making, I pull out "Twilight" to remind myself what is going on in her head at the moment. There's so much new material untouched in "Twilight" in M.S. I would name the Port Angeles section as one example. We read "Twilight" and think the man in the alley gets away scot free. But we see justice dished out in M.S. I also don't think "Twilight" really showed how much Edward really wanted to kill Bella at first, how hard he plotted to do this. Or how really, he discovered his love for Bella so much earlier than she did for him. Or the jealously. There are some very funny parts surrounding that emotion in M.S. We also don't realize that his family wanted her dead as well. All we really know about these things are in the one chapter in the meadow and the following scene in her bedroom, and they are only briefly touched upon. There is so much more to be explored where the manuscript stopped. I really want to read Meyer's take on Edwards thoughts as he hunts for the nomad James, and the inner dialogue between Alice & Edward riding back from the baseball game and what happened when he got off the plane at the airport and how they arrived at the ballet studio. I want to know what Esme was thinking when Edwards brought Bella home the first time to meet his family, and the thoughts behind the looks Esme shared with Edward. I will continue to question these parts every single time I read "Twilight", until "Midnight Sun" is finally published.
O.k. that being said, I'm off to listen to the Saga on my iPod. At least I know I'll get a break from reading and listening to the Twilight Saga's in 35 days. That's when the DVD is released and I can watch the downloaded movie on a continuous loop on my iPod all day every day! Yeah!
Have a Happy Valentine's day!
